Buying back a phone: the register, the receipt, the stock
The entry in the second-hand goods register, the receipt signed by the seller, and the phone that goes into your checkout on its own.
In France, buying a device from a private individual requires recording it in the register of second-hand goods (the “livre de police”, art. 321-7 of the French criminal code). That is the Buybacks screen.
Record the buyback, and have the seller sign
Enregistrer un rachat (Record a buyback), then the seller’s identity (name, address, date and place of birth), their ID document (type, number, issuing authority and date), the device (brand, model, IMEI, capacity, colour, condition) and the price paid. Faire signer le vendeur (Have the seller sign) opens the signature box. Then Inscrire au registre (Enter in the register): the buyback gets a RAC-… number.
The resale price is optional when recording. Enter it when you know it: it is the one shown at the checkout.
The receipt opens on its own: print it or keep the PDF
Right after recording, the buyback receipt is displayed: seller, ID document, device, price paid in large print, the seller’s declaration (“owner, neither stolen nor pledged”), their signature and your stamp. Imprimer (Print) or Télécharger (Download). You can find it at any time: the document icon on the register line, or Bordereau (Receipt) on the buyback page.
The trace: a fingerprint on paper, and in the log
At the bottom of the receipt, a fingerprint (for example 8070-A8F3-EFEA-544E) sums up what was agreed: seller, ID, device, price, signature. Each printout is also recorded in the shop log, sealed every night, with this fingerprint: who printed it, and when. A receipt altered afterwards no longer matches the recorded fingerprint. The later sale of the phone does not change the fingerprint.
The phone goes into your stock on its own
When recorded, an item is created in Parts & Inventory, in the Appareils (Devices) category: its name (“Apple iPhone 13 128 Go Bleu”), its IMEI as a barcode, one unit, the price paid as purchase price and your resale price. It appears in the Devices tab of the checkout, without entering anything else.
| What happens | What the register does |
|---|---|
| You sell it at the checkout | The buyback becomes Sold, at the price actually collected: your margin is correct. |
| The sale is cancelled by a credit note | The buyback goes back to In stock, and the phone returns to the checkout. |
| You set it to “Sold” or “Returned” by hand | The phone leaves the stock: the checkout no longer offers it. |
| You correct the register (model, price) | The stock item is updated. |
A signature cannot be replaced
Once the seller has signed, the signature is the trace of their agreement: it cannot be redone. The other details can be corrected, and the next receipt will carry a new fingerprint.
